Halfway There

Finals week is right around the corner and that means I am at the halfway point. I am halfway through my senior year and closer to graduation. Fall semester has gone by so quickly and it’s scary to think I am in my final months of college.

I am excited for graduation, to have a job and see where my future takes me, but I’m not ready to be away from my friends here at Ohio Northern. I’m also not ready for the thought of potentially moving away from home. I’m content with being 3 hours or less from home, but I would prefer to live closer. If I have to move away, I’d like to move away now and move back before I am married or starting a family.

With just a few months left, I can’t wait to see the memories ahead not only at ONU, but also after graduation.

Christmas Time!

I’m not one to start decorating for Christmas before Thanksgiving. Well Thanksgiving is over and I can’t wait for Christmas.

My favorite things about Christmas are the lights, baking, wrapping presents, and decorating the tree. I love driving and seeing all of the lights and decorations people have around their houses.

The mall and stores are always busy throughout the holiday season, but the mall is such a fun place to go. All of the stores and the mall itself are decorated, and it just feels so warm and happy. Everyone is smiling and excited about the upcoming holiday.

I can’t wait to start wrapping present and baking cookies with my family. Christmas is one of my favorite holidays and I’m happy it is right around the corner.

Thanksgiving Break

This Thanksgiving break is different than the past couple years. This is my first Thanksgiving home in two years because the past breaks were spent on a medical mission trips to the Dominican Republic. This break is also the first time in a few years my sisters and I have all been home and able to celebrate together.

As Thanksgiving break rolled around, I was a little upset about not returning to the Dominican Republic. The Dominican is such a warm, welcoming place. Over the past two years I have made many friendships, which I still have today, and it makes it hard not seeing them this week.

The nice thing about social media is I can still keep in contact with them. I can see their pictures and posts on Facebook and Instagam. Social media makes it easier to keep in contact with them when I can’t be there.

Luckily, I have the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving break with my family and friends. I am very thankful for this week home and memories to come with my family.

The Final Event

As a current senior in Kappa Alpha Theta, the time to elect new positions has come and gone. I was having different feelings this year than in the past because I didn’t get to apply for a position this year. The only thing I have to look forward to, in my last few weeks of my position, is my last event, Mr. ONU.

Mr. ONU, Ada’s Next Top Model themed, is this Wednesday, November 16. It is crazy to think I just got this position and now I am about to transition another sister into the position. Mr. ONU is probably one of the hardest events to plan because it has so many factors affecting it. The event requires contestants, judges, a large room, sound system, and several other things. Without these things, Mr. ONU wouldn’t be as successful as it has been in previous years.

As Service and Philanthropy Director, I am proud to have received the opportunity to host not only Mr. ONU, but also Nacho Average Event, Messy Twister, a community Easter egg hunt, CASA events, and other service projects. This position has really impacted me and made me think more about becoming a CASA volunteer in the future.

Leadership Day

This past weekend, Greek Life participated in Leadership Day. Leadership Day involved sessions to discuss how to be a leader in all aspects of your life. The two sessions I attended were about social media content and being a leader and friend at the same time.

My favorite of the two was the social media session. I have a minor in social media and, having previously had classes with Dr. Agozzino, it was a lot of fun and things I could relate to.  One of my favorite things about Dr. Agozzino is her ability to make any conversation fun and relatable. She did such an excellent job with the session and relating it to all of Greek Life and using real examples. I know a lot of chapters have a social media policy and this session just shows no matter what you post or how far back, someone can still find it through other people. It is important to know social media posts never go away and how to properly protect your accounts through privacy settings.

Halloween 2k16

I feel like summer and winter take forever to get through. There are Christmas decorations out in stores in October, but fall and Halloween go by so quickly. This past weekend I celebrated an early Halloween since actual Halloween falls on a Monday this year.  The weather couldn’t have been any better for my final Ada Halloween. It was warmer than the usual weather for this time of year.

The weekend started with our annual Delt and Theta Halloween social. This year we decided to spice things up and head to the bowling alley for different scenery. As usual, I dressed up with my best friend for the title of  “best dynamic duo.” This year we decided to go as our favorite ‘90s show, “CatDog.”

Saturday was my favorite costume of all time. I was Kuzco from “Emperor’s New Groove.” The costume was simple to make, but a lot of fun because it’s from one of my favorite movies. The movie is a classic for all ages.

Homecoming Weekend 2016

This past weekend was my last Homecoming at Ohio Northern, but a very memorable one. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to be on Homecoming Court. I was nominated by my sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta, and lucky enough to receive a spot on Court.

My family and friends supported me along the way, making the experience even better. One of my favorite parts of the whole weekend was walking out on to the football field at halftime, looking up into the stands and seeing my family and friends. It isn’t everyday my family gets to come to Ada for an afternoon or game, so seeing their faces, cheering me on was such a great feeling. A feeling I will never forget.

My senior year is going by so fast; I can’t believe it is almost November. I am trying to make the most of the last few months here and being on Homecoming Court was a great memory to add.
